AULATICE Research (2009-2011)

is developed from collaboration agreements between firms SMART, EPSON and SM Editorial and Research Group "Teaching and Multimedia" (DIM-UAB) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona . In The study involved 30 teachers and about 1,000 students of 10 centers teachers located in different areas of the country and representative of the educational levels of primary and high school.

The purpose of research is twofold. On the one hand, experimentation of the possibilities teaching and innovative ICT resources in classrooms AULATICE, available interactive whiteboard, document reader and personal computers. Moreover, the identifying the best educational models sharing textbooks and digital content on-line in these classrooms.

Participating teachers will receive training 5 sessions (two plenary meetings and three workshops in their own center) on the best models of learning activities that can be performed with the use of these resources. Then AULATICE in their classrooms, teachers contextualize and students apply to these teaching and learning activities, and analyze the added value which leads off the traditional activities carried out without ICT resources.

During this first year of research (2009 - 2010), the use of interactive whiteboards has been very high , as most teacher has used more than 60% of their classes . By contrast, the use of laptops for students has been more limited , about 30% of weekly class time, as agreed in the training sessions. However, a third of teachers have not reached this level of use for late technological facilities.

TEACHING MODELS The most used, and with very good results, are those made with whiteboard and focus on the activity and control of the teacher: exhibitions lectures, exercises among all , public correction of exercises, commenting on class from viewing videos online newspapers, websites ... Moreover, some teachers have a blog where they put materials for their students. And it seems that they find useful and is good for the students.

has also been used extensively and with good results other models with PDI activity and focus on student initiative : public presentation of works by students, presentation of materials sought Internet, assuming the role of teacher to explain issues to their peers. Among the models that require use of laptops by students , the most used are: conducting self-corrective exercises or to correct later with the PDI.

As models sharing of ICT resources and textbooks, the smartest in class were: consult and engage in the DVD accompanying textbooks, summaries and synthesis of the book and exposing the PDI, and study the textbook content and then conduct activities proposed by the teacher in your PC with the PDI correction . And with digital content, the models used were: develop multimedia presentations documented through digital content and expose them to PD, PC studying certain digital content and teacher's exercise or self-assessment, and computerized batteries answer questions seeking answers in digital resources in the PD correction.

Although teachers highlight some DISADVANTAGES: required more time to prepare lessons, Internet connection problems , troubleshooting and maintenance of laptops ... The ADVANTAGES are many and important. The faculty unanimously manifested increase attention, motivation and participation students. And with these activities provides a renewal methodological innovation-oriented teaching.

majority also believes that classrooms AULATICE allow access to many resources and sharing between students and teachers, plus context activities and better address the diversity of students, providing more opportunities to investigate and develop imagination and creativity. Also almost all teachers appreciate being facilitates understanding of the content, collaborative activities, conducting Corrections collective, ongoing evaluation, and overall teaching, learning and achieving educational goals .

lesser extent, also see students improve their fluency in making presentations and argue and even here there are differing opinions, many teachers say also improves memory capacity of students and higher customer satisfaction , motivation and self-esteem of teachers. Instead, are not as clear that the time advantage over class or that enhances its reflection and critical thinking.

Virtually all teachers believe that students improve their LEARNING with the activities undertaken with the support of technological resources AULATICE, however only half also say they have improved their academic qualifications .

Nevertheless, widely consider that students have learned more and and unanimously expressed like to do the classroom instruction AULATICE . According to teachers there is a greater impact on student learning that go well in the subjects or at least likely to approve. In contrast, the positive impact that is also, it seems lower in the case of students with difficulties in adopting and unmotivated students .

teachers also pleasant to organize classroom activities AULATICE, and even states that results in a significant increase in work) considered worthwhile for the improvements in student learning obtained, which are largely competence. Besides the competition information processing and digital world that all teachers think that they should improve, also values \u200b\u200bthat may be favored the learning to learn skills, autonomy and personal initiative and linguistic communication.

Next academic, research will focus on greater realization of these potential benefits, they always depend on the teaching and learning activities carried out with the classroom resources AULATICE. We will continue defining the best models educational use of these technologies, with particular attention to the activities of sharing ICT tools, textbooks and digital content. And we will also identify some of the basic skills which acquisition by students is facilitated by these activities and some forms of assessment is not rote to allow better appreciation of the skills that students are acquiring.
